In the beginning of the semester my Professor began with a very interesting quote by Helen Fisher. The main concept is that humans live for love, kill for love and die for love. People all over the world let love lead them in their creative pursuits and love also brings so much sorrow and also so much joy.
That powerful beginning really set the tone for what was ahead. I liked that our Professor created a genre for us to learn and analyze. It made the class feel more focused and interesting. According to the types of love I think that Eros being physical or desire driven was most portrayed in the play, Streetcar Named Desire. Even though this play was written a long time ago, it shows that humanity was and is filled with passion and lust. The characters Stanley, Stella and Blanche really showcased so many emotions in a passionate and intense way.
In the short stories The Things They Carried the love philosophy Philia, the love between friends was really displayed. The members of the platoon during the Vietnam War had to carry so much emotional and psychological burdens. They had to deal with fear, grief and loneliness and the constant threat of danger. It was very intense.
All in all I learned a lot from the readings our Professor chose for us and I feel grateful to have had a good educational experience.
